Thousands turned out for an unforgettable day of sporting endeavour, personal achievement and celebration in the heart of Cork City.
It was a day of achievement and community celebration, as more than 11,000 runners took to the streets across the Full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K events. Thousands more lined the route to cheer on participants waving homemade signs, creating an electric atmosphere.
Chris Jeuken took first place in the men’s Full Marathon with a time of 2:18 and Evelyn Twomey was the first female finisher in 2:54.
In the Half Marathon, first place in the men’s category went to Jake O Regan (1:06), and Niamh Allen (1:10) led the women’s field and was also the third overall.
The 10K race, which continues to grow in popularity, saw Fearghal Curtin (29:46) and Hannah Steeds (34:51) take first place in the men’s and women’s events respectively.
This year’s marathon was a global affair, with 550 international participants hailing from over 26 countries. This together with the involvement of 1000 staff and volunteers, local running clubs, and the Sanctuary Runners added a vibrancy to the event, celebrating the unity and inclusivity of Cork.
Race Director Eamon Hayes praised the scale and spirit of this year’s event, saying: “On behalf of the entire Cork City Marathon team and Cork City Council, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this year’s event such a resounding success. To the thousands of runners, joggers, walkers and wheelchair users who took to the streets of Cork City – thank you. Whether you were chasing a personal best, running for a special cause or challenging yourself to cross the finish line, your determination and spirit were truly inspiring.
“Also thank you to the people of Cork, who once again lined the route in their droves to cheer on participants and create the unforgettable atmosphere that makes this event so special. Your warmth and encouragement mean the world to those taking part.
“We are hugely grateful to our partners Analog Devices, our stakeholders, sponsors, the emergency services, Gardaí, medical teams, stewards, and over 1000 people who worked on the event this year. We simply couldn’t do it without you.
“One of the most powerful aspects of the Cork City Marathon is the incredible generosity it inspires. Thousands of participants used the event to raise vital funds for causes close to their hearts as the ethos of the marathon is it’s #YourRaceTheirHope. A staggering amount has already been donated, and more is coming in every day, so it will be our most successful year to date for fundraising. This is community spirit in action, and it is deeply humbling.
“We were honoured to have such strong representation from community groups this year, including 1200 Sanctuary Runners, United by Miles, and Back 2 Boston – each bringing people together through sport and friendship. Our Inclusive Mile event also brought added meaning to the day, showing that this marathon truly is for everyone.”
With all three races selling out months in advance, and a record-breaking fundraising total that has already surpassed this year’s ambitious charity goal, the 2025 marathon delivered impact far beyond the finish line. Dozens of local and national charities are set to benefit thanks to the incredible generosity and determination of participants and their supporters.
Race improvements introduced this year included enhanced start zones, additional hydration points, and further inclusive facilities such as free period products.
As the medals were handed out and finish-line celebrations continued into the afternoon, the message was clear — Cork City Marathon 2025 was not only a race, but a triumph of community, determination, and shared achievement.
