Over 5,000 runners, representing over 250 different companies, lined the streets of the Dublin Docklands on Wednesday night to take part in the sixth Grant Thornton Corporate 5K Team Challenge.

First team across the line and winners of the Male category were Defence Forces in 1:06:19; female winners were St David’s CBS in 1:25:48 and winners of the mixed category were Bank of Ireland in a time of 1:09:05. Louis McCarthy from MHC came out on top with 15:25 while Catherina McKiernan was first female across the line in 17:28.

Aimed at encouraging social running amongst Dublin’s business community, the event welcomed both seasoned runners as well as beginners. Each team had a minimum of four participants.

This was the final run of the successful Grant Thornton 2017 series following on from Cork City on June 14th and Belfast City Airport on June 22nd.

Grant Thornton had 36 teams taking part while Bank of Ireland topped the pile of entries with 50 teams. Other significant entries included Bristol Myers Squibb, AIB, Dunnes Stores and Version 1.

John Foley, CEO of Athletics Ireland said: “As an association one of our core strategic objectives is to promote health and fitness in the population as a whole.  It is great to see the Dublin business community coming out again this year in such large numbers to participate in the Grant Thornton Corporate 5K Team Challenge”.
