Introduction
I’ve been eyeing ON shoes for a while now, so when I heard about the new Cloudsurfer Next for women, I was delighted to give them a go. ON has been making waves in the running world with their Swiss-engineered tech, and these new shoes promised to be a game-changer—combining lightweight speed with proper cushioning. As someone who runs regularly around Dublin’s streets and parks, I was curious if these could handle everything from tempo sessions to longer runs. Spoiler alert: I’m impressed.
My Testing Experience
I’ve had the chance to test the Cloudsurfer Next on a mix of runs—short interval sprints, a couple of 5K’s, and some lighter trail runs in places like the Phoenix Park. Right from the start, they felt so light on my feet, and the cushioning was soft yet responsive. The best way to describe them is “fast but comfy”. After the first couple of runs, I could already tell they’re built for speed, but they didn’t leave my feet feeling wrecked after longer sessions. These shoes delivered just the right balance of support and bounce without ever feeling too heavy or sluggish.
Midsole
Let’s talk about the midsole, because that’s where ON’s CloudTec technology really shines. It’s designed to give you that cushioned landing with a springy push-off. Honestly, I am so impressed! It’s soft enough to absorb the shock but still responsive enough that you don’t feel like you’re dragging your feet. The cushioning never felt too plush, which I liked. Some shoes can feel a bit “mushy”, but the Cloudsurfer Next keeps you light on your feet, even when you’re pushing for speed.
Upper
The upper is made of an engineered mesh, which is breathable and fits snugly without being too tight. My feet didn’t feel overheated even after longer runs, which is a big win in Dublin’s unpredictable weather. The shoe is designed to hold your foot in place, but the fit still feels comfortable and not restrictive. I loved how the upper felt secure without needing to over-tighten the laces—always a bonus when you’re trying to get out the door in a hurry.
Outsole
The outsole uses ON’s Missiongrip rubber, and it did not disappoint. I took them through a mix of pavement and a bit of trail, and I didn’t have any issues with grip. The multi-directional lugs provided a solid hold on everything from the city streets to dirt paths. I didn’t slip once, even when I was navigating some of the damp, leafy trails around the Phoenix Park. They give you that confidence to push through corners and faster paces.
Verdict
I’m a big fan of the ON Cloudsurfer Next. They’re perfect for someone like me who needs a shoe that’s lightweight but still offers enough cushioning for those longer runs or when I’m just looking for something to keep up with me on shorter, faster days. Whether you’re training for a race or just out for a daily jog around Dublin, these shoes will definitely have your back. Comfort, support, and speed all in one tidy package.
